Take a look at these process shots of a Redfish box that we made. The redfish is made of Zinc and the plaque that covers the box lid is copper. If I recall, it was about 11 inches wide and 5 inches high.

Tracing the drawing to a sheet of pure zinc.
Using tools to put lines into the zinc and some textures to indicate shading.
Partially raised up. About to increase the volume by pushing in from the sides.
After pushing in, the redfish is almost true to the original drawing, but now it's 3-D.
The zinc redfish is cut away from the background and attached to the copper plaque which will cover the top of the cigar box.
